"Elemental narratives that resolve to light but only after a sojourn"
Lightning Love!

"Lightning Love is an Ann Arbor-area outfit with twee-pop songs in the
vein of Glo-Worm or other 7"-friendly groups from the early 1990s. A bit
of woe, a bit of sweet, some keys and some drinks. With some promo this
shit could move millions at Target."
Elle and the Fonts

"Detroit's Holly Golightly with some Runaway's attitude"
Deleted Scenes (DC-Brooklyn)

"Deleted Scenes moved us past the first date and right into that stage
where you have an unbridled passion for someone and can't keep your hands
off them trying to discover every inch and exhausting yourself in the
effort. Blowing off the haze of a Sunday night, fronted by the wiry
charisma of Dan Scheuerman and his eyes that hang like he never sleeps,
they brought a thumping big sound and tension to the proceedings. They
show lots of DC influences in their playing, from Dismemberment Plan yelps
and angles to Fugazi ragga and Jawbox rumble. However, it was when they
hit the big radio-ready choruses (reminding me actually of Old 97s – a
reference the band might cringe at) that they were the most interesting.
Knocking into shape a little more and finding their own voice (trust those
pop instincts and more synth – I know I know) and they could be big news
soon." |

Jehovah's Witness Protection Plan

"JWPP loves to rock. We don't care what you think about rock and roll or
36 year old boy-men who play it. Neither of us are dead... and we are SURE
of that. Are you? Over the last year we've met a ton of people that we
absolutely fell in love with. Pretty sure you all know who you are. If you
even have to think twice about it, then it's you we're talking about. If
you want to join the list, come see us... everybody has a shot at being
loved with JWPP. To borrow a phrase from a childhood church song, "red and
yellow black and white"... We also fell in love with each other,
ourselves, and rock and roll. You can scoff, smirk, point fingers and
giggle... your picket fence will never keep us off your lawn. If you hear
a knock on your door, don't be surprised. We are coming to wake you up and
make you live again."
Netherfriends

"Some guy once told us we sound like the bastard pop-band from hell that
he has always been looking for," says singer/guitarist/pianist/anything-ist, Shawn Rosenblatt of his fuzzed experimental gypsy space-folk trio, The Netherfriends. The guy also said
their sound might sound like, "if the Zombies and Animal Collective met
and recorded in a kitchen."
the Whales

"Sebadoh and Elvis Costello go fishing"
Red China

"Red China rocks spaced out dissonance like nobody else in town right now.
Theyve completed something like 45 CDr albums of original material and
show no signs of stopping with their first official release. Spacey,
psyched out space rock with elements of VU, Spacemen 3 and other
torchbearers. Are you ready for a totally engaging zone out?" |

The Cut Loose

"maximum Detroit R&B. A reminder to who only follows the mold of Garage
rock that there are more legitimate heirs..like the Cut-Loose"
The Hadituptoheres

"Do you ever get that feeling when you are driving home from a job you
hate or a situation you can no longer take? That pretty much sums it up.
Plus, if you've been paying attention to a lot of music lately, we're sure
you'll understand." — The Hadituptoheres
Yeah, I get that feeling all of the time thinking about the overwhelming
amount of people who like shitty music and how often good music is
overlooked. Hopefully these guys won't be. Their music deals with the same
shit that a majority of us pissed off individuals face; "Punk, justice,
making love and breaking up in the Motor City," according to them. A
perfect blend of aggressive punk with catchy poppy type hooks make them a
band that everyone with good taste can enjoy. "The original idea was for
us to be a heavily punk-influenced power-pop band. However, the poppier
side started to fade as we got into writing together more and more. These
days we try to be more aggressive. Our songs are louder, noisier and
faster. We haven't totally abandoned our pop roots though; hooks are
peppered throughout to help keep people singing along," they say."
Real Detroit Weekly
Reverse X Rays (Austin)

"This Austin based band returns from the future with post Western insight.
Their name is derived from this tidbit: According to James Brown (the late
expert on the subject), Reverse X Rays come out of the TV set and are used
by nefarious federal agents to alter the brains of our fellow citizens. #5
in Ten Austin Bands you should know compiled by the Daily Texan, July 5th
2007"
The Fury

"The Fury is a punk rock power trio from Detroit. Originally formed in
1983 in Ann Arbor, It is hard to pinpoint their style, but it is certainly
punk, sprinkled with thrash and a pinch of rock. Mainly, you will hear
fast songs with furious lyrics, in addition to power chords, and righteous
guitar solos by Dr. Vic RoX. The steady non-drum-solo beat is provided by
Mr. Evan Rude. And the no-nonsense bottom end attack is graciously
presented by Madd Anthony." |

The Thunder Chickens

"From the moment the music started, it occurred to me that one doesn't
merely listen to or watch the Thunderchickens, one travels with them. They
take you and you go - no questions. No hesitation. No doubts. You know
that even though you have no idea where you're headed, it's exactly where
you need to go..pounding into you and changing not merely your opinions
about music, but the way you hear music - the way you hear everything.
That's the journey you are now on. They conjure up a sonic tidal wave. A
surf breaking rocks (what surf-rock should have been). Jekel ravishes his
guitar (think the grittier portrayals of "Leda and the Swan"), and Matt
Kramer on drums and Justin McKinnon on bass carve cliffs and reefs riddled
with the perches of screaming seabirds. Mel, in the center of it all,
makes love to that ocean of sound. Offers herself to the sea with no fear of drowning. But it would be a mistake to write her off as merely a sexual
force of energy - it is her words, her voice, her violin that make her a
gifted artist who makes you willing to kill or die to have her there on
that stage."
Almost Free

"Almost Free has the perspective of many european bands that reflect back
to us our lineage of pop music"
The Mantons

"He decided that it was time to start a band. Why? Because it was time.
And so, he did. This is the virtual fruit of those labours. Naturally,
actually seeing the band is the only way to truly cast judgement. This
virtual world, well, it will always leave something to be desired. There
are many here who create megalomaniatic labrynthine sites, complete with
tits and ass, and that's OK. But it doesn't really mean anything. Manton
has always drawn a line in the sand: Shit, or get off the pot. That's his
motto. This band doesn't have a ghost of a chance here, but on a stage,
they'll fight it out like David and by the power of Fiat will beat any
pasty, Jowelly Goliath. That's becasue The Mantons are lean and mean.
Nobody has ever given them an inch; they probably never will. That's
because people are afraid of a band that tells it like it is. But, in the end, The Mantons Do The Thing That Must Be Done. They are Here, for You.
Enjoy."
Emily Rose

"surprisingly soulful , smooth, and sultry", Pauline Lupercio, Detroit News. "truth be told the girl has one hell of a set of pipes", Adam Bark, The

Millions of Brazilians

"Millions of Brazillians have a hard, booming sound, a rough, pushy rock
and pop vibe pulling as much inspiration from Stevie Wonder as it does
Fugazi. The trio, Nick and brothers Zoz and Derek, prove that power trios
can exist without a bass player – and that it adds to versatility; says
Zoz, "We found that working out the problems of not having [a bass player] made for a more interesting writing process," adding that other influences
include Martin Gaye for Nick, Jonny Greenwood for Derek and Interpol for
Zoz. Piston-pumping-percussions, a low buzzing, wide swaying guitar hooks
like unforgiving rapids under a cutting-toned lead that shrieks and wails
into beautifully caustic solos.
Manna and Quail

"{Black screen- and slowly red light on the horizon. The Detroit River is
burning. Sparks and embers reel and fly from the blaze and scatter out of
the urban inferno. One by one they plummet into the soft dark surrounding
the city. Green green blue the ashes are reflections from tv screens, lcd displays, unblinking eyes, streetlights. In a small corner the diffused
light rejoins. Enter Steve Saputo- all five o'clock shadow and bottle
green eyes Enter an idea a polychromatic landscape of emotion, strange
chords and sublime melodies Enter Matt Walsh Enter Gjon Gegaj coral
eyelids and lashes- bass building a foundation for castles in the sky
Awash in the embryonic pulse of the hearbeat emerges Adam Davis essential, innocent Together these streams of molten consciousness begin flowing
back, back to the ruined volcano of a fallen metropolis. A blazing stream
of sound winding towards the source of motion. The past and future of
Detroit. Manna and Quail together. Just over a year ago from the
imagination of Steve Saputo a musical aesthetic emerged blending ethereal harmonies with a gritty pop rhthym. He formed Manna and Quail with a
handful of talented musicians playing around Detroit. Each one of the band
members brings a unique musical perspective that complements and completes
Saputo's distinct sound."
Friendly Foes

"Friendly Foes first took form as a solo project of Thunderbirds Are Now!
frontman-guitarist Ryan Allen. The outfit shares TAN!'s nervous energy
(and, naturally, Ryan's itchy adenoidal man-child vocals), but the band
tips its hat to latter '90s indie-rock instead of TAN!'s Brooklyn-damaged dance-rawk. Sez Ryan: "Our jams are constructed using the simplest of
methods — a few chords, some lyrics about people we hate, some crashing,
some banging, some thudding and some rumbling. This band is basically a
replication of my 7-inch collection from 1996, and I'm proud of that."

The JOHNNY ILL BAND

METH TEETH

The debut 7" EP from the ominously named Portland combo Meth Teeth has arrived this week on Sweet Rot Records, and it's got such an unsettling vibe of depravity and ruinous tones ringing throughout its grooves that it might just be that record that keeps you up at night, listening for those inevitable voices to creep inside your head. The band includes members of Artificial Limbs, Leper Print, and Night Wounds and churns out four powerful and subdued songs that reach beyond the scope of their members' previous incarnations, with an unnerving twisted conviction. It penetrates the genre confines with ease, just like some of their contemporaries such as Sic Alps and Nothing People have done so well, and ushers their name into the hushed inner circles of the discerning underground rock'n'roll cognoscenti. The 7" is divided between two sides that show different facets to their direction, and the first tracks linger in a muddier psychedelic swamp of twirling melodies that form a beautiful backdrop for the eerie echoed vocals to seep into, and you'll see how well Meth Teeth craftily utilize their haunting guitar umbrage to maximum effect with such lush minimalism. "Bus Rides" slides around the grease and grime-laden blueprint that they have forged out of fragments of broken light bulbs and illusions of glassine spiders crawling up their arms, and instantly garners repeated listens. The b-side proffers more acoustic-based tracks that slowly bleed with such a hypnotic charm that it pulled me in from all directions before I even knew it. It may not hit you blindsided right off the bat, but after the third or fourth play, it's clear that Meth Teeth have something very good going on below the surface, and it may just be the unassuming b-side that clinches it. Starting off with "To My Good Friend," the next two tracks have hovered in my soft-boiled brain repeatedly for days and add even more certainty to the fact that some of today's best music lurks on the backsides of 7"s, just slightly out of the direct light that helps keeps it menacing, dark, and interesting. Don't sit on your ass and pick up Meth Teeth's debut 7"

Checker's Record Collective Presents a CD Release for Jesus
The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre

"The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre have been a fixture on the Detroit scene for
over a year now, giving kids nightmares not seen since your big sister's
first year at Camden College in the Reagan 80's. They are the proponents
of the growing genre of 'slop fuzz', a mixture of The Cramps, Creation,
and T Rex. They are proud of having played over 100 shows with never the
same setlist. See what strange business they have for Corktown for their
debut CD release fest."
The Sheeny Men

"I want all of you to know that The Sheeny Men are comprised of three guys
who are passionate about we are doing. If only we could convince all those
other people out there that there are two things that lead a revolution: a
dictator, or music. Let's do it through music. Be passionate my friends
and live life to its fullest."
Tokyo Sex Whale (Ontario)

"...3 piece based out of Ottawa, Canada, worshippers of the great whale,
half brothers (and sister) to the almighty albatross, speakers of the
gentle word, TokyoSexWhale aims to provide a sonic experience that will
have its audience reeling at all ends of the spectrum. TokyoSexWhale met
in a pitch-black room that all three visited to obtain enhanced sexual
prowess from ancient Asian sources. After the police raid, they exchanged
telling glances while waiting to post bail in lock-up. On The Outside,
they utilized the awesome power of a 1966 Plymouth Fury to make good their
escape, and discovered a mutual musical affinity. Ever since that fateful
night, TokyoSexWhale endeavours to bring their experiences to the
forefront of their performances to enlighten and delight crowds. Their
songs are not songs; they are life lessons to be learned the hard way. Or
we might have gotten drunk and started a wicked band in Yogi's basement.
Only time will tell..."

Woman(Knoxville Tennessee)

"A relatively new quartet fronted by Chris Lowe (with drummer Jason Stark,
guitarist Tyler Mucklow and bassist Damion Huntoon)stole the night. As
soon as they opened with "Flood Plain," a primal chant that feels more
like a consummate rain dance than a rock song, we were enthralled, powered
by strange juju. Lowe, shaking a pair of maracas, looked like a shaman,
summoning us into collective mind trip, inviting us to leave our bodies,
and just move into something a little more sweaty and beer-heavy. Gravity
lost its grip. Sounds jacked directly onto the cerebral cortex, shrouding
reality in a thick purple veil. We were dancing, even if we didn't realize
it."-Metropulse Review
the Pizazz

"Bizarre, sorta spazzy organ led pop, punk weirdness. Really refreshing
and interesting and great. It's like New Wave, but not in a retro-chic,
sideshow sorta way. I'll buy a drink for anybody who can help tell me what
exactly they sound like. Is it the future? I hope so." - Rich Hanson
Fontana

The band's sound is something that is completely lacking from most modern
music. It's a hodge podge of several prehistoric artifacts such as The
Stooges, surf music and Sun Ra that is sonically challenging without being
completely spastic. "It's not like we have some set formula we operate
by," Paul states. "After playing songs hundreds of times, what may sound
totally improvised or whatnot is just natural."
Something else that is natural is the band's exciting stage show. Paul
flops around like a chicken with his head chopped off while Colin destroys
his drumset and Geoff is left to smile and watch the mayhem unfold. It's
certainly not boring, folks. "I'm sure I feel some 'connection to the
music' or I'm letting out some inner frustration about things and all that
kind of crap," Paul says, "but I really find a thrill in acting so
absurdly and having people shake my hand for doing so." - RDW

CITYFEST AFTER PARTY!
Canja Rave (BRAZIL)

"Imagine yourself recovering from the worst kind o hangover, and still you
plan about going to a party the other day. At that time you don´t feel
like doing anything just sit back, sleep, recover from all that beating,
but sudden opportunities of new fun and entertainment makes your brain
tell your body that you can do it! You will go out again and have some
fun, leaving all troubles behind.
These sudden changes of attitude and feelings common in bipolars
originated the name CANJA RAVE, which means chicken soup rave, as in a
mood change of going from chicken soup to a rave party. Canja Rave also is
also getting the opposites together, like men and women, the formation of
the duet or you may call it band with Paula Nozzari and Chris
Kochenborger. The duet consists of Paula drumming and singing, while Chris
sings and play guitar. They both compose all of their songs and lyrics.
Songs that were done simply to exercise the composing style of a possible
new project, or even song writing for ther artists, however, due to the
coincidences and desteny the couple became a band, because of an
uncompromised rehearsal to test the music they had written. Since Chris
was a bass player all his life playing jazz, and rock bands, he made his
guitar sound more bass like. Paula had to adapt to the singing part too
focusing on both playing the drums and her voice.
The result of the Canja Rave, a band that came from chicken soup to a
rave, is that we get to travel a lot, meet people, and get everyone
rocked!"

The Fifty
"Attacks and retreats. Structure anddisorder. Subtleties and blatancies.
From five distant points of Michigan come the five young men of The Fifty.
Their songs live somewhere on the edge of pop music, sprinkled with equal
parts distortion and clean, catchy harmonies. Two balanced guitars,
unpredictable rhythm, steady bass and sassy keyboards fill out their
five-piece sound. Although still collectively new to the sport of rock,
they are no rookies, having spent years writing and performing in other
bands. Sure, there are many new local bands chasing a quick piece of
Detroit hype. But The Fifty, with dedication, intelligence, and disgust
for musical fads, won't quit until those bands are outlived."
Modernlull

"If Jim O'Rourke joined XTC and went out drinking with the Buzzcocks"
The Wednesdees

"The Wednesdees offer a throw back to the R&B influenced rock that made
Detroit a musical mecca in the '70's. A set list covering everything from
The Casinos to The Count Five takes us back to a time when music could
change the world or at least make us forget the world sucked." |

SIRSY

(pronounced "sir-see"): Fiery, sultry, soulful indie pop that rocks! "LITTLE BAND... BIG SOUND! --The Boston Globe (Boston, MA).
"Krahmer can sing, scream, blow flute, drum, & tease, and she does them
all REALLY well. Libutti plays everything else (he even uses his feet!)
.... Go see sirsy!" --The Village Voice (NYC).
""Radio friendly, and eye-friendly, but the material is actually REALLY
good. Like pop songs used to be before MTV". --Indie Sounds NY (NYC).
In Civilian Clothing

Sounds Like: Tender but taut indie rock, heavy on drone but with plenty of
bells and whistles (an e-bow even!) to pretty things up. Think of a
rockier version of the Postal Service mixed with a less histrionic
incarnation of Sunny Day Real Estate.
Sound Sculpting: Camp and McLaughlin began playing music together 11 years
ago in a straightforward pop-rock band, Roots of Resistance, soon picking
up Drzewiecki and finally singer/songwriter Clayton, who has probably had
the biggest influence on steering the band in an xperimental/art rock
direction.
-Chad Swiatecki (Flint Journal THE EDGE)
Wally Dogger (Chicago)

"The members of Wally Dogger are the guys in the cubicle near you,
literally. 'We're the regular guys in the cube next door,' said Pauly
Doerr, who plays bass and keyboards, as well as sings for the band. 'We
hope that average person who hates their job can relate to our lyrics.'
The trio, which includes Matt Donehoo (drums) and Jeff Keel (guitar),
started Wally Dogger while working in the IT department of a law firm.
Naturally, office-world technology plays a prominent role in the band's
music. 'People listen to us and they say we're geek rock or some sort
nerd rock,' Doerr said. 'We're not trying to be geek rock or nerd rock, it
just happens that we're playing or singing about fire-wire cables or
network cables. People take that as being geek rock.' For those still in
doubt, Doerr happily will invite you onstage to use their puppet. Yes,
they have a puppet and is name is BoBo. 'Yeah, we bring BoBo on stage
from time to time, and we have people operate him,' Doerr said. 'We try to
stand out with a unique show.' Wally Dogger takes pride in its live show,
even when puppet-less. 'We really try to give the audience their money's
worth. We don't just get up there and close our eyes and go into
auto-pilot,' Doerr said. 'We really try to keep the fans involved.' Deep
down--as the band's most recent album, 'I Surrender, When Do I Start,'
reveals--the members of Wally Dogger are cubicle people.

"Self-described as "the least rock 'n' roll rock band" due to the lack of
any tattoos or piercings amongst them, no history of heavy illegal drug

"Ben Glover's a trippy tunesmith of the first order; his gifts for
lysergic mood-setting and and clever musical phrasing shine through the
mire of cloudy beatific bridges; vintage-sounding instruments and paisley
melodies of a perfectly hazy Pink Floyd daydream..it's still roots rock
just with different roots"
The Pizazz
"They're young, they're crazy, and they write good pop songs. catchy,
upbeat pop songs. The Pizazz won't bore you with the same old detroit rock
n roll sound-- they'll dazzle you with a fresh approach to indie/new wavey
rock. songs to hum along to, songs to sing while driving in the car. this
one is really worth your time."
- Windy & Carl
Bad Medicine at the Campfire
"In a city mostly known for its rock and electronic music, you don't often
hear bands playing the good ole down-home, beer-swilling,
cowboy-boot-wearing tunes that most would consider country. That is,
unless you've heard Bad Medicine at the Campfire. This three-piece outfit
plays the kind of songs that will remind you of all the heartache and
swagger of a Hank Williams tune. And Bad Medicine at the Campfire still
manages to be original and exciting enough to captivate an audience,
whether they're inebriated or otherwise. The arrangements are simple
enough; the band consists of two guitar players, one on rhythm, one on
lead guitar, and a drummer. Their songs are about the Vietnam War and
worshipping the devil. And as bizarre as this may sound, they seem to fit
perfectly with the band's slow twangy hum that sometimes drones and sometimes, or lack of a better term, rambles."

PRONTO
Robot Army (Formerly The Pontiac Punks)
The PONTIAC PUNKS were a cool rock/punk band back in 1975. The played with a lot of cool local bands as well as out in NYC in 1976 – Ramones and others came to see them play at Max's Kansas City and the Ocean Club. Creem Magazine did an article on them comparing them to the Stooges and MC5. They were Lester Bangs band of choice for his going away party when he left Detroit for NYC in 1976. |

GET READY FOR THE FIRST OUTLAW COUNTRY, PUNKGRASS, OUTLAW GOSPEL, FLESH HANGING, PUNKROCK TRAVELING ROAD SHOW. Nocephus Entertainment Presents A combination performance: A Howdy yall from JASON AND THE PUNKNECKS who honky tonked it all the way from Hollywood; a Heavily tattooed, L.A. based, punk-country band, who mixes Social Distortion with a little bit of hillbilly hollerin and a hint of Hank Williams (RAGE Magazine). Not only is their sound a one of a kind genre, but their style is just as unique. This fast rising band has energy on stage that makes you wanna get out of yer seat and join in on the drinkin, interactive, musical fiasco. JASON AND THE PUNKNECKS have been seen in Rock City News, L.A. Weekly, f5, and Nashville Scene. With, as seen on TV, lead singer Jason Price (who holds world record on Ripleys Believe it or Not for longest flesh suspension in a moving vehicle), and Polly Punkneck on harmonies, making a thick duo. . They play across the country meeting new fans almost everyday and can perform wild body modifications on themselves as an extension of their variety show

The CAT THIEVES present:
WHEN DRUM ASHEENZ ATTACK
featuring
THE ATOMIC BABIES (live)- DRUMASHEENZ - BROOKLYN
Atomic Babies were born when Joey Jupiter began cranking out hard acid tracks in the early 90s in the basement. Since those days Atomic Babies have toured the world headlining everything from dirty warehouse parties with secret map points to mega one off events with 5,000 plus, to the pretentious New York, LA and Chicago night clubs (if you have ever heard Atomic Babies / Joey Jupiter, you know that he's best heard in dirty warehouse parties). The destructive duo recognized as atomic babies once plagued the rave scene with a dynamic presence and revolutionized a culture with their intense sets of analogue equipment. Today one member of the original atomic babies remains (Joey Jupiter) who continues to pour his heart into the music that has gained him worldwide success as an artist and through his distribution achievements. The group/movement (atomic babies) has taken on a new meaning to the misfits of the scene and music aficionados of the world. It stands for more than just a group conveying the message of electronic paradise. It symbolizes everything that is about keeping the music alive and not selling out to achieve the greater things. We are underground, we are hardcore, we are everything that you would want out of music. From live acts, to djs, to fire juggling circus antics, we take the things that are sacred to us and bring them to you without the conformist mind-set. So thanks for the support throughout the years, and join us on this next phase as we continue to push the limits of the music we love and collectively branch out to more and more people that want to be down with some hardcore mutha fuckers.
ERROL - THE CAT THIEVES - DETROIT
Record, Robots, Godzilla and Starcraft. if you have to ask then you just don't know. Having been around the D for a while now and sharing the stage with some of EDM's best. Errol is a dance floor killer. fusing the best in minimal, house, fidget and acid. He is sure to get your ass moving.
