ALIEN SHOW: ART, MUSIC, FASHION
Alien is the theme Xenophobe/Xenophile
Interpetations of the theme are not exclusively of the terrestrial vein but
encompassing perspectives foreign to popular reality. mediums include
photography, paintings, and textiles.
The participants in this exhibition range from Herman Weems jazz afficianado,
R&B record producer, and one of the first beats in the city of Detroit. His
best known work maybe the cover of the Temptations "Psychedelic Shack" LP on
the Motown label.
Another who's work will be shown is Rick Lieder a graphic artist who has
illustrated many books including a collection of the short stories of cyber
punk author William Gibson for prestigious Arkhan House publishers.
Projections by film/video artist John Aretakis will fill the room.
The Glitter-Glam Futuristic Fashions of Kristi Burgett will be featured.
Live music by "Spic of it all" which has been described as "Jose Mencia but
funny" and "halon" a progressive instrumental band creating lush psych/space
rock soundscapes with projected visual accompaniment.

5th annual installment of the pre-Festival BBQ
Past events included a Gotham Grooves showcase in the Brooklyn Lofts and last year's memorable "Live Wrong: Festival Edition". This year, we are bringing together techno artists of like mind and style from Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit to eat, drink, dance and be merry before the techno onslought of the Festival proper begins... 12 hours of pounding techno in this classic two room Detroit venue with indoor and outdoor areas. As always, cheap drinks and food available. Party starts at 5pm Friday, ends at 5am Saturday.

Julie Nager - The vessel is young, but the soul is ageless. These words just about sum up singer/songwriter Julie Nager. Her ethereal vocals and original music stream with experience far beyond her 24 years.
JP05 - Featuring the songs of Jeff Patlingrao (songwriter, guitarist, singer), JP05 rests somewhere between the intricate and beautiful sound of Elliott Smith and the blasting guitar solo rock of Dinosaur Jr. Loud, Quiet, Steady, and Fierce.
Shawn Fogel - Singer/Songwriter Shawn Fogel combines alt-country, indie-pop, and garage-rock with his energetic, clever and quirky songs. Shawn has opened for the artists like Ben Lee, Clem Snide, Adam Green, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, and makes his Detroit debut at Corktown Tavern!
Ethos - Ethos refuse to sheepishly succumb to status quo. Through hook-laden lyrics laced with ethereal swirls, ethos create a sonically enriching sound by melding the individual styles and influences of each member. Crafting melodic pop songs reminiscent of revered British groups of old, they combine the fine appeal of American indie groups of today.
